Can a human-factors-optimized AI-enabled support system reduce medical errors and improve patient safety?

For the final stage of the research program, all three teams will work together to incorporate the findings from the previous stages into the development of an AI-enabled clinical support system and the corresponding user interface. In a clinical trial, physicians will be asked to perform their day-to-day work either with or without the help of the support system. With this human-factor-optimized system, we aim to evaluate whether AI-based advice indeed improves clinical outcomes such as diagnostic accuracy, perceived workload, and stress.
